Mindfulness in Hamburg with NL MINDFUL
Kindness. Support. Growth.
Let’s look closer at how Mindfulness & Kindness belong together an how Self- Compassion can influence our well- being, inner calm and Resilience in stressful situations.
In stressful moments we are likely to be harsh on ourselves. We are blaming or judging ourselves, always with a possible negative outcome in mind. One negative thought follows the other. This negativity is a downward spiral leading to more and more stress.
Habitual self-criticism is stress for body and mind, letting us feel threatened:
„With self-criticism we are both the attacker and the attacked.“ Neff/Germer: The Mindful Self-Compassion Workbook, 2018.
Becoming an Ally of ourselves
Resilienz Training in Hamburg
It would be wiser to be supportive to ourselves as we would do with a good friend. Kindness towards ourselves is an upward spiral, as it lowers the level of stress hormones in our body: Endorphins reduce stress and pain and the hormone Oxytocin is giving us a sense of being safe and protected. We become an ally of ourselves.
Cultivating Kindness inside changes our approach towards ourselves and others, we see the goodness and potential we all have inside for growth.
Research has found, that within the first minutes of a Kindness Meditation, parts of our brain already begin to fire, those parts that enable us to approach life with empathy. Prof. Mark Williams: Mindfulness- Finding Peace in a Frantic World 2011, pg. 204.
Changing the Narrative towards Courage & Hope
Unser eigenes Denken bestimmt unsere Resilienz gegen Stress
See if you become aware of the the harsh inner self-talk and instead say something uplifting to yourself in silence, even if it seems weird. Be gentle and forgiving towards yourself, if something has not the outcome you expected. Appreciation rises our level of Oxytocin in the brain and makes us feel safe.
Our own Thinking is the key to booster our Resilience. Repeating mental notes of Kindness is a way to counterpart the harsh, judgmental inner voice. We are changing the narrative, taking our mind in a direction of courage and hope.
