GUESTHOUSE
Guesthouse · program insight
a peek into the nl mindful program:
the concept guesthouse by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn
was inspired by the 13th-century poet Rumi’ s
poem “the Guesthouse”.
Life in some way is a Guesthouse,
always new arrivals at the door.
pleasant ones, difficult ones.
loss, health issues, fear…
approaching
We often want things to be
as we want them to be.
But often we cannot change a situation for now.
By Putting out the Welcome Mat,
we approach difficulties in life.
they are here anyway: Let’s meet them:
shifting from avoidance to approach.
We are not a single experience.
we are not our thoughts.
Allowing
We often try hard to push away the negative.
this takes a lot of energy.
We normally tend to repeat in our mind:
how on earth is this happening to me?
and allowing to be with what is,
may soften the stress response.
Not in the sense of approving,
but allowing how we feel,
recognizing what is here,
Stabilizing our mind by
protecting ourselves With kindness,
Gently allowing the body to soften.
getting in touch with hope.
stories of the mind
thoughts are compelling.
They may take over.
Negative thoughts may lead to
lower self-esteem, guilt, fear,
poor sleep or appetite.
even social withdrawal.
We are not our thoughts.
a thought is just a thought.
stories of our mind.
We don’t suppress them,
But we don’t feed them either.
the waterfall
imagine Stepping outside
a noisy waterfall.
just a few steps away,
the sound is getting quieter.
we are no longer inside
thoughts and emotions anymore.
with a little distance
we can observe,
instead of being submerged
and swept away.
how we relate
if we try to push emotions away,
we may end up maintaining them.
no need to approve a situation.
Feel what you are feeling.
you are much more than
a single moment, thought, emotion.
How we relate is essential.
be kind to yourself.
we can open up
to the tiny beautiful things in life.
Being
mindfulness is not about achieving goals.
It is about being present,
moment by moment.
aware of what is here right now.
connecting with our body
and the senses.
juste pause.
for a moment.
Be here. Observe.
Opening up to whatever is here,
allowing tense areas to soften.
Connecting with your breathing.
be kind to yourself
Imagine letting go –
as Kindness towards yourself.
